The Better Veteran
Work With Me

Customized 1:1 Transition Planning.

Six months of working directly with me and my partners on your benefits, education, career, money, and fitness. Still in, just out, or years past separation, we start from exactly where you are. I take five veterans a month, and this application is how you claim one of the spots.

Five spots a month Every partner is a veteran The newsletter and tools stay free, forever
How it works

Six months, built around you

The first two months are the heavy lift: we go through your benefits, education, career, and finances together and build the plan. Months three through six are scheduled check-ins to keep it moving. Disability, education, and fitness you work on with me directly. For the money side, I introduce you to my partners: financial planners and advisors, and when it's time to buy a home, a VA loan expert. Every one of them is a veteran. That is a rule, not a coincidence.

To be clear about what you'd be paying for: my time. Everything I know is already free in the newsletter and the tools, and it stays that way. Applying costs nothing and commits you to nothing; the next step is just a call.

Why work with me

You could do all of this yourself

Every rate and rule in this system is public. You could piece it together alone, the same way you could do your own taxes. Some veterans do. But I've walked every step of this myself, and so has every partner I'd introduce you to. We know where the money hides, which fine print bites, and which mistakes are expensive, because we made a few of them on the way. You get the shortcut we didn't have.

And a transition only happens once. The big calls, your GI Bill, your rating, your first offer, are hard to redo. Getting them right the first time is the whole game.

Who you'd be working with

I ran this playbook on my own life first

The GI Bill and VR&E put me through an Ivy League degree and a top-ten MBA. When my family got hit with a $1.6 million hospital bill, CHAMPVA paid it, a benefit most veterans have never heard of. My 100% P&T rating wiped out the property taxes on the house I bought with a VA loan, and the way I've stacked my benefits means that house will be paid off. None of that took luck. It took knowing what I'd earned and how to use it. And I didn't get it right the first time: I made plenty of mistakes along the way, which means you don't have to. You get to start where I ended up.

Since then I've helped dozens of veterans get into their top school picks, and worked with dozens more, from Navy SEALs and Green Berets to retiring O-5s and O-6s to Reserve E-4s, to take full advantage of what they earned. Different ranks, different branches, same playbook.

This takes a couple of minutes. Every question is about you, so there's nothing to look up. I read every application myself, and your answers are only used to prepare for your intro call. Nobody else sees them.

From veterans I've worked with

"I'm an O-6 in the reserves. I have given my GI Bill to my 7-year-old and want to make sure she gets it… I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right for my kids."

"Zak, this is amazing. Thank you so much… I will definitely transfer at least one month to each of the twins. If I have further questions, I won't hesitate to get in touch with you. Thank you once again."

Phillip
Retiring Navy Captain (O-6)

"I recently transitioned out of the Navy and went straight into b-school… I had a difficult time understanding what my previous salary actually translated to in the private sector and figuring out what my family needs to live on in the private sector."

"Dude - YES! This is fantastic. Hugely helpful both at transition and right now for me in planning for my next career."

Nolan
Navy SEAL, now in b-school · The exchange that sparked the Salary Translator

"Just read your $260k strategy. You really opened my eyes and I wasn't even tracking most of the execution… these numbers ($$) are almost too good to be true. Haha. I know they're not, but it's wild that this isn't advertised more."

"You're doing gods work, my friend. For real. Your material has helped immensely. I would've never known of all the perks available unless I read your document."

Clint
Air Force veteran, retired, 100% P&T, headed to business school

"Cornell was my 1 target and Columbia was my number 1 reach… Crazy that I'm soooo close to making those conversations a reality."

"I'm in!… Brother I'm so excited. Gracias para todo hermano. This is wild… Scholarship no scholarship I'm going. Thank you for everything man… Just grateful for your time."

Christian
Marine Corps veteran · He wasn't planning to apply at all. Now he's headed to Columbia Business School on his benefits.

"hey!! i got accepted into Columbia! just wanted to let you know - i got the notification today!"

"i'm super excited. feeling very proud, grateful, and validated. i can't [help but] feel our talks together and your guidance helped me."

Jay
Air Force veteran · Was headed to a state school. Now a year into a Columbia undergrad degree, fully funded through VR&E.

"Thanks bro! As I said to everyone else, I sincerely appreciate the time you took to help me. I wouldn't have made it this far without your and everyone else's support from the vet community. It's a little sappy, but I really sincerely appreciate it bro."

"It was no small part, every interaction helped push me further onto the right path. Not to sound to sappy, but I couldn't have made it without you!"

John
Navy veteran · Accepted to NYU Stern's full-time MBA with a test waiver · Interview prep, essay review, and resume work together.

"To be more accurate, you explained the process but someone else told me it was possible. I guess that makes us even."

"Explain the how is way more important than saying something is possible. I can tell you brain surgery is possible, but I can't tell you how to do it."

Brandon
Retired Army Green Beret · We worked his one-time TPD student-loan discharge reversal step by step, so he could claim it again at a much larger amount for his MBA.

"This tool gave me the info I received after researching daily on what it would be like to separate. It's pretty accurate. Great work!"

Luis
Army veteran · On one of the free tools

"That benefits for the wife from the va benefits are awesome. I haven't signed her up but after reading what you wrote I will now."

Bryan
Navy Diver · After one newsletter: his wife had been eligible for free CHAMPVA healthcare for five years. Neither of them knew.
